Description

A mountain hike on the heights of Lake Geneva to discover the lake of Lovenex between France and Switzerland.

The objective of this hike is to discover the Lake of Lovenex nestled in a very wild setting in the middle of a combe bounded by the Grande Miette and the Mont Valeur. You will be able to discover the Lake of Lovenex from a totally different angle. Indeed, once arrived at the Pas de Lovenex, the hiker will be able to observe the eponymous lake, as if suspended above Lake Geneva situated below.

If the name Lovenex evokes the presence of wolves, you will more likely find ibexes on your path, which are very numerous in this sector of the Chablais. Magnificent panoramas follow one another along the route.

Guided steps

0/ Departure from the hamlet "La planche" car park
1/ Go down the road and cross the river Morge to enter Switzerland. Turn to the right on a road up to the chalet (alt 1183 m). Go to the right up to a concrete platform. On the slope, take the well-marked path under a large square stone.
2/ At the crossroads, take the path on the left (direction Col de la Croix, Lac de Lovenex, Tanay). Go up the valley bordered by the tooth of "la grande Miette". Pass the Col de la Croix (very nice view of the lake and the mouth of the Rhône), go down towards the chalets and the lake of Lovenex. Return by the same route to the crossroads. Do not fork right, go straight on to descend on a path overhanging the Morge, cross it and join the GR 5 (white and red markings), on the French side.
3/ Take the GR 5 to the right then to the left in the middle of a field, to join a track. Follow it to the Planche car park, cross the road and take the signposted path back to the starting point, along the old Novel road.
