Description
The Chapel of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows in Bonnevaux was built in 1834 by Reverend Girod, the parish priest of Bonnevaux.
In 1834, Reverend Girod, the parish priest of Bonnevaux, built the chapel dedicated to Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows; the date 1834 is inscribed on the door lintel, and the inscription “Ave Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows, pray for us” is painted on the wall above the entrance; numerous restorations followed; in 1881, Father Rollin had the walls whitewashed and replaced some of the furnishings and paintings; in 1887, Father Bouchet carried out restoration work; in 1910, a bell tower was built during the tenure of Father Clerc by François and André Cettour Meunier; in 1934, the shingle roof was replaced with slate; in 1949, the stucco was redone and the door replaced; In 1982, a comprehensive restoration was carried out, including repairs to the roof, interior painting, and other work; the bell dates from 1910 and is named “La Sainte Vierge.”
